The $28 you pay is not to unlock the phone, the $28 is a "pre-order unlock service" to find out how much it will cost to unlock the phone. So I guess I will know for sure about 24 hours from now. If money was still due on the phone, he would email me with details. He said if they found that the phone did not have any outstanding balances associated with it, it would be unlocked in 24 hours. The person who answered couldn't not tell me if that was the case, but checked with his supervisor who put a request in to have the simlock removed from the phone. I called T-Mobile, just to confirm the $200 balance was correct. The service came back with a $200 fee to unlock the phone, because of a $200 outstanding balance due on the phone. Most unlocking services will do this before attempting the unlock. The only way to check carrier lock, besides what you already did in testing various SIMs, is to have someone check the GSX report for what Applied Activation Policy is in place along with "Next Tether" Activation Policy. MEID and IMEI checkers used on carrier sites cannot determine if a device is unlocked, only if the device has the capability to be used on the network (right bands, has CDMA, VoLTE, certification, etc). I will post back on whether it works or not. We purchased unlock service from - the unlocking is still in progress. Phone user wanted to try an unlock service before returning the phone to the seller. The phone store staff provided a T-Mobile Support phone number to call and some advice about what to say when requesting the phone be unlocked. I think the phone is an unlocked model, because when I checked the MEID with Verizon, they said the phone was compatible with the Verizon system.Īnyway, we took the phone to a T-Mobile store to confirm that it would work with a T-Mobile SIM card. Or process a return through eBay (BEST option IMHO). Try to buy an unlock through an online service (not 100% effective if the phone is locked due past due balance), Try to make a T-Mobile account to use for unlocking (50 active service days from activation, may not work if the phone is locked due to past due installment bill), Plus I'm not 100% certain this would work on TracFone brands like PagePlus (which also uses Verizon-network SIMs).ĪDDENDUM: Just saw OP's reply. Though this might not apply to a SIM swap into an already active Verizon-network SIM (I do have my doubts since VZW can detect IMEI changes on the network). This means the IMEI probably wouldn't activate officially on anything but Verizon's Prepaid system. That isn't the same as unlocking for a non-Verizon-network (AT&T, T-mobile or Sprint) SIM which is 60 days post-purchase. Previously, Prepaid-designated IMEIs are activation locked to VZW Prepaid by Verizon's system for a year or longer. This sounds possible, though Prepaid doesn't do subsidy or installment purchase option. Maybe it was bought Verizon Prepaid with a subsidy.
